This project reimagines family archives through the lens of collective memory and visual storytelling. Drawing from 56 baby and toddler portraits I collected from my 23 aunts and uncles, I constructed a physical quilt collage featuring each of my cousins. The images were hand-cut and arranged on fabric once used by my mother to sew quilts for my siblings and me, embedding layers of personal history within the piece.
After assembling the physical collage, I translated the composition into a digital format using Photoshop, creating a looping gif to mirror the continuous, cyclical nature of family ties and generational care.
My goal was to shift focus away from any one individual and instead emphasize the whole, inviting the viewer to take in the group as a vibrant, playful, and interconnected network. The saturated color palette and soft materials echo the joy and nostalgia of childhood, making the familiar feel newly intimate.
